Miss World Organization: Beauty With A Purpose

29 Mar

Miss World Organization: Beauty With A Purpose
Miss World 2010 Coronation Night

The President of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley, coined the phrase ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ more than 35 years ago and since then more than $400 million USD have been raised in its name in support of children’s charities across the globe, bringing help and hope to hundreds of thousands in need.

Among the many recipients of this outstanding fund-generating activity has been the Nelson Mandela Trust, Canada’s Cops For Cancer, Variety Clubs International, Operation Hunger, and the SOS Children’s Villages which cares for orphaned and abandoned children in 132 countries.

Today, Beauty with a Purpose is also the name of a special annual award programme that singles out and recognises the Miss World contestant who is shown, through charitable works, to have made a real difference to people in need in her homeland.

Charity work is integral to the Miss World ethos and part of the brief to contenders in each country is that they volunteer their time or fundraise for charity.

All of the money raised goes to the nominated cause and the entrants’ records are credited with details of their personal contribution. Their hard work, dedication and above all, results, are what puts them in the running for the Beauty with a Purpose award. Beauty with a Purpose is staged as part of the festivities just prior to the pageant itself and since 2005 the winner has automatically been awarded a place in the Miss World semi finals.

Miss World Alexandria Mills was joined by Mr World Kamal Ibrahim and Miss World Africa Emma Wareus a fundraising weekend.

Without question, it is the enduring popularity of the Miss World pageant that has helped spread the word and encouraged young women to get involved as part of their bid for the title in activities that really can only make the world a better place.

Indonesia: Bali is the destination of Miss World 2014

21 Mar

Bali, Indonesia is the destination of Miss World 2014.

Bali is set to be the destination for beautiful and intelligent contestants of the Miss World pageant in 2014.

Bali is an island and a province in Indonesia located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country’s 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said the event’s organizers have confirmed that Bali would host the prestigious beauty contest.

According to Pastika, Bali’s epic natural beauty and rich culture were deciding factors in it being selected for such a prestigious international event.
“This will ensure Bali is even better known around the world,” he said to the Jakarta Globe.

He also said that after the release of Eat, Pray, Love, a major Hollywood film, Bali had been nicknamed the “island of love”.
He also said that tourists seeking intimacy should make Bali their destination.

“For those who have been married for a number of years and want to reinvigorate their love, or for who have not married and want to be intimate, Bali is the best place.”
Pastika added that new infrastructure was coming, which included a bigger airport and better roads.

Indonesia will host the Miss World competition in 2014. The news was broken by Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika during a speech to open the 61st World Real Estate Congress (FIABCI) at Hotel Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua, Bali on Thursday.

“In 2014 the Miss World contest is going to be held in Bali,” Pastika said.

According to Pastika, the resort island will also a host a number of other international events such as the 2011 ASEAN Summit and the 2013 APEC Conference.

Pastika used the opportunity to promote tourism in Bali by saying Bali had already gained another nickname.

“Bali is known as the Island of Gods and Island of Peace and Democracy, now Bali is the island of Love. Julia Roberts, in the movie Eat, Pray and Love found true love in Bali,” he said.

Pastika’s persistence in promoting Bali earned him praise from Vice President Boediono.

“If you need a marketing director, Pak Governor is the right man. He has the knack for marketing,” Boediono said.

Tobago to take to the world stage?

18 Mar

Could Tobago be the host country for Miss World 2011?

During the last few weeks Julia Morley, Chairman and CEO of Miss World Limited has been visiting the short listed countries that have been bidding to host the Miss World 2011 final. The Miss World website missworld.com has seen a large increase in activity as the announcement of the winning bid draws near.

As the final submissions are made by the candidate cities, thousands of additional online visitors have been following Julia Morley and the Miss World team, trying to guess which country will host a record 120 nations for the most famous beauty festival, in the world.

In the past few weeks, Tobago and its sister isle Trinidad in February  have become suprise front runners for hosting 2011 Miss World Final, after Julia Morley met with Tobago’s Chief Secretary Orville London and the Minister for Development, Mrs.Vernella Alleyne-Toppin. The visit so impressed Mrs Morley that she told the Chief Secretary that she was confident in Tobago’s capability to stage a world class final.  If the event is held in Tobago, it is expected to bring a massive economic boost to the region and open the door for other premier world events to be staged on this Island paradise.

Meanwhile the Miss World team is visiting the other candidate countries for the final time.
Will the Island of Tobago be able to hold off the bids from its much bigger rivals in South East Asia, including China, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Philippines. That answer will soon be revealed!

If they do so, Tobago will, make history in becoming the first country of the Caribbean or Latin America, to win the bid to stage the Miss World Festival!
